Prunus lusitanica Angustifolia

Height: 0,3–0,4 m

Portuguese laurel cherry is an evergreen shrub that reaches a height of about 3-4 m and a width of 2-2.5 m. A fast-growing variety with a densely branched system of shoots. Its leaves are glossy, lance-shaped and leathery, with slightly toothed edges. Fresh shoots are brownish red. The leaf stalk is reddish burgundy. The flowers bloom in late spring or early summer, in white clusters that resemble candles. The fruit is black, which also makes it decorative and it can be used in bird-friendly gardens. It needs a sunny spot, but also grows well in partial shade. Loose, well-draining, nutrient-rich soil is ideal for it. Its water needs are moderate; it is worth watering regularly, with small amounts of water. It tolerates pruning well. It can be planted as a specimen plant, as a hedge, or looks nice in combination with other plants.
